About Me

My name is Briony Hemmings. I am a nature and travel writer with a particular interest in places that we overlook and wildlife that we encounter when not otherwise paying attention.

I grew up between Wales, Cornwall, and Ireland, where much of my childhood was spent outdoors, camping on moorland hills, hiking through pony herds, and swimming in cold, fast rivers. Those early landscapes continue to shape my writing, which is rooted in careful observation and resilient exploration.

I am neurodiverse, which means I don’t always follow the most direct route, whether walking or writing. But it’s often in those unscripted detours that I find the most compelling details. My work tends to explore how our inner worlds respond to the natural one.

I write about wildlife, landscapes, and the wonderful things that happen when you get thoroughly lost. My work is navigated by a slightly dodgy internal GPS and is fueled by curiosity about animals, people, and experience.
